It cares little about what the listener wants, featuring trace elements of melody or amiability, which is oft submerged by the harsh, schizophrenic beat patterns. Chiastic Slide features a much darker and more glitchy aura than its predecessors, its sounds delving in mechanical debauchery and alien production. Gone is the ambient warmth and charisma of Incunabula and Amber, as well as the rewarding diversity of Tri Repetae. Often considered to be the black sheep in Autechre's discography, the album sees them embark on a musical transition from their early techno and house style. Their fourth LP, Chiastic Slide, shows them extending their sonic palette to craft a stellar yet dreary, uninviting beast of a record. Chiastic Slide, apparently taking its name from an eye condition, is a masterpiece of abstract music, rooted as much in the Kraftwerk playground as it is in Pierre Henry or Pierre. The duo of Rob Brown and Sean Booth have often been dubbed the pioneers of IDM, releasing albums comprising of incredibly enticing yet peculiar music. Information Format: 2LP: Availability: In stock: WARPLP49R. Though not initially met with the same critical acclaim as Tri Repetae or LP5, Chiastic Slide was eventually recognized by critics as an innovative and enormously influential album. And on it goes - ‘Recury’ is a submerged sci-fi tearjerk of the highest order, ‘Pule' is pure, arpeggiated synth voodoo, 'Rettic AC’ is like some alien concrète flashback, ‘Calbruc’ stop-motion turntablist attack - it’s just all a perfect vision of some imagined future that hadn't quite finished rendering yet.2021 reissue, finally! Since their inception, Autechre have stretched the confines of conventional electronic music while adding their glitchy Midas touch. Chiastic Slide is the fourth studio album by the British electronic music group Autechre, released 17 February 1997 by Warp Records. ‘Tewe’ flows with the kind of liquid energy that’s completely at odds with the monochrome, staccato constructions you’d find on something like a Markant record, while the industrial clank on ‘Cichli’ connects directly to Alan Wilder and Martin Gore's mallet-on-sheet-metal brilliance in a way we just didn't clock at the time. 25 years later Chiastic Slide's influence is just as evident, but the gap between its rhythmic genius and the legions of imitations seems almost laughably wide. Anyway - we were just over saturated with the stuff. when we opened our shop in 1998 there was just a seemingly relentless and endless flow of records made in its shadow - we even spent a weird afternoon watching on as sean grabbed a stack of them and played them on our listening deck, offering quick appraisals of things like EOG on Djak-Up-Bitch (he was into it) and Funkstörung (erm, cant remember). This rubs people the wrong way, but you have to imagine the level of influence Chiastic Slide exerted. We’ve said it before, but the period that followed Chiastic Slide was a weird one in electronic music, there were just no other records that shaped IDM in quite the same way. Chiastic Slide - the glitch blueprint - endlessly imitated, deconstructed and worshipped, now a quarter of a century old and still capable of shaping the narrative. Marking their fourth studio album, Chiastic Slide saw Autechre exploring dark, glitched-out sonics, harsh sounds, and mechanical rhythms.
